The 2018 Honda Amaze is here. In April 2013 Honda First introduced the Honda Amaze, since then the amaze only got a mild update with a facelift in May 2016 but it did not help much in recovering its declining sales. With the facelifted City and the new WR-V doing good in their respective segments, it was just the right time for Honda to bring in the second generation, 2018 Honda Amaze.
Last year Maruti Suzuki rolled out the third generation of Dzire and it dominated the Sub-four meter sedan segment in India. The other competitors like Hyundai Xcent also started to sell in large numbers with its facelift introduced in 2017. So there was a quick need for Honda to roll out the new updated and improved version of the Honda Amaze to regain its lost grounds again, And here it is the 2018 Honda Amaze.
It was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and was an eye catcher for most of the Indian hunks out there. With that Honda certainly responded to the increasing levels of expectancy among the buyer in this hot segment as the prices are also touching the 10 lakh mark. So lets check out that what Honda has on offer this time around.

2018 Honda Amaze Exteriors & Design
Back in 2016 Honda cars India introduced facelift version of Amaze, but it could not act as a head Turner in the market. So, in order to regain its position back on the redesigned amaze completely with all the technological upgrades and updated features.
One look at the front and the 2018 Honda Amaze welcomes you with a bold, striking and aggressive looks this time around. It maintains complete balance between the sporty, aggressive and premium looks. At the front it houses sleeker conventional headlamps with LED DRL’s, a bold and fat Chrome grill with Honda branding on it and redone bumper. The Overall design language of this car is borrowed up from the Honda City and makes it feels like baby Honda City.
At the rear it gets new LED Tail Lights uplifting the rear design by quite a mark. The overall design with the bold upright face makes the new 2018 Honda Amaze stylish in nature and well-proportioned this time around.

Well like the Exteriors the interiors of this new 2018 Honda Amaze are also fresh and there is significant improvement inside the cabin of the new-gen 2018 Honda Amaze.
The 2018 Honda Amaze comprises of a revised dashboard with dual-tone interiors with black and beige finish, new centre console with a large touchscreen Digi pad 2.0 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, revised buttons, Air-conditioning vents and dials, etc. It gives you a premium feel with some soft touch plastics.

Moreover, it offers cruise control, that is a feature that is a class above. But it does not get Rear AC vents and the headroom at the rear is not up to the mark and can be a bit of a hassle for taller passengers.
2018 Honda Amaze Engine & Performance
The new 2018 Honda Amaze has the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel and 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol unit, that are carried over from the outgoing model. The diesel engine makes 80 bhp and 160 Nm that is less than the outgoing model to provide a smooth and comfortable ride & to reduce the Noise, Harshness & vibrations inside the Cabin. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox/ 5-speed CVT which comes with paddle shifters.

With the Length of 3,990 mm, Width 1,680 mm, Height 1,505 mm, Wheelbase 2,405 mm & Kerb Weight 940 kilos the new Honda Amaze will likely remain the same as the outgoing model. The ground Clearance is also 165mm.
|2018 Honda Amaze Boot space||420 litres|
Now, with boot space capacity of 420 liters this is the best in class boot and in this department the 2018 Honda Amaze beats its major rivals like Dzire, Xcent etc.
2018 Honda Amaze Ride & Handling
Honda’s 1.5L, four-cylinder diesel engine gave us a feeling of déjà vu, and it performs just like before, and is quite responsive. Power kicks in a very linear manner, and you never feel any sought of lag while driving. Even the engine pulls well without any jerk in higher gears and it makes the gear shift much easier. The new 2018 Honda Amaze diesel Performs well in mid rage but fells a lil bit dull past 4000rpms but the engine feels calm and refined even at higher rpms. The gear shift of the gearbox is also hassle free with short gear throws and lighter clutch. The CVT also drive well until you try to push it harder, it is when it creates a rubber band like effect to remain under the rev limiter.
Talking about the petrol is the familiar 90hp, 1.2-litre engine and like the diesel mill it is also the same. It even has the same power and torque figures & still drive in a same manner. It is still an engine to be driven gently for smooth and refined performance. Unfortunately, the engine still has weak mid-range with noticeable lag, which calls for frequent gear shifts to get most out of it.
But Like most other Honda’s Petrol units, this 1.2 motor, too, loves to be revved and feels much easier to drive this time around with 5-speed gearbox & CVT with paddle shifters.
Coming to the Ride Quality & comfort, it is one of the key strengths of this 2018 Honda Amaze and it does a pretty good job. It handles rough roads, pot holes & coroners very well and you don’t get toss around on broken roads. Body movements are very well controlled too. The only thing that is the downside is when the car is fully loaded the rear of the car bottoms down and can scrape the booty on sharp Indian speedbumps or ramps. Overall the ride quality was good, it now feels more stable, secure and planted & gives you a sense of confidence while driving.
2018 Honda Amaze India Price In India
|2018 Honda Amaze||Expected Price Bracket|
|Petrol||Rs 5.8 lakh to 8.75 lakh|
|Diesel||Rs 6.5 lakh to 10.5 lakh|
2018 Honda Amaze Key Rivals
The new generation Honda Amaze competes against the likes of segment-leader Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor, Toyota Etios and Volkswagen Ameo.
The new 2018 Honda Amaze is lot more better than its predecessor on every ground, be it the dimensions, the new premium & bold looks, Overall Space, updated features or the improved Ride quality with CVT introduced this time around. Yes, there are still some downsides as you still get conventional head lamps, cramped rear headroom, fixed headrests at rear and no rear AC vents. But on the other side it offers class leading features like better AC compressors to cool cabin rapidly, best in class boot space, stylish looks & better fuel economy. But the question is, Can the new Honda Amaze give tough competition to its segment-ruling rival The Suzuki Dzire? Which almost ticks all the right boxes as the Amaze. Well it depends on how smartly Honda Prices the new Amaze to lure customers away from it rivals. But yes, there’s a strong alternative to the Dzire launching on 16 may 2018.
