The Volvo XC40 is the all new presentation of the compact SUV segment in India. Being new it definitely sets par with the latest equipment’s the car has on offer. It has to be the smallest SUV produced & designed by the Swedish manufacturer. The Volvo XC40 is all set to arrive in India in July this year in just one engine option. This will be the D4 which is the 2 litre Diesel engine producing 186 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. The all new design is going to compete with cars like the BMW X1, the Mercedes GLA and the Audi’s Q3.
Exteriors & Styling of 2018 Volvo XC40
Volvo has been an amazing in terms of designing. The designs look fresh with creases and lines all across which give the car a clean look. It looks delightful to the eyes and sporty as well. The Volvo XC40 is sportier to look from both inside and outside. The crystal white looks even better with the two tone blackened roof. You also have our favorite red and a blue on the offering for the roof.
The manufacturer has kept a close eye on the looks and it definitely is a head turner. Volvo has not gone wrong at all in terms of styling and designing of the new XC 40. All the cars have that family trait of the led tail lights and raised hood but the cars are different in every way. The Volvo XC40 is pretty distinct be it in terms of the way the tail looks or the raised hood or be it the upright stance the car looks well proportionate from all the angles. Those amazing DRL’s or Daytime Running Lights which are inspired by the Marvel action hero Thor are jaw dropping.
Interiors of the 2018 Volvo XC40
The inside on the other hand also gets dual tone on offer ifs for the white color model with black and lava being the two tones. The lava looks a bit obnoxious in certain areas but the all black on the other two color options looks sportier from inside. We wonder how Volvo XC40 will manage the fabric used on the seats as they felt like a bit woolier, which means that the fabric feels woolen. We doubt it can stand the Indian conditions where it’s sunny most of the times.
The interiors give you even more confidence with leather wrapped steering and that amazing looking instrument cluster. It comes up with features like Apple Carplay, Android auto, Wireless Charging on the go with that soothing music system
For all those music lovers the the 660W harman kardon sound system would please you on those journeys. The huge 9 inch infotainment system features the Apple Carplay and Android Auto for on the go music streaming.
We found the rear quite spacious. A person with 5″10 inches tall and keeping in mind the front seats adjusted to the driving position of the above mentioned height. We had plenty of room at the back. The only setback according to us is the lower seating position and upright back which does not recline could give the rear passenger a hickup. The most interesting feature was the USB type C charging dock which surely demands the other competitors to have one.
2018 Volvo XC40 Engine & Performance
The Volvo XC40 is all set to arrive in India on 4th of July this year in D4 diesel and a T5 petrol four-cylinder Drive-E engine options. The D4 which is the 2 litre Diesel engine producing 186 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Volvo XC40 is supposed to be a city rider, but it does have a trait of an SUV. That 211mm ground clearance does help is providing that off road trait from the further siblings. But hey, would you mind driving this beauty off roads?? Personal preference says -NAA… This one is meant to rule the roads and supposed to be dealt with care.
|Engine||2.0L four-cylinder D4 diesel||2.0L five-cylinder D5 turbo petrol|

Ride Quality & Drivability of Volvo XC40
The AWD is standard so the power would be enough on all the wheels to push you across. Keeping that personal preference apart the car comes equipped with Haldex system especially in that off road mode can definitely send that meaty torque to all 4 wheels.
Driving this baby was fun. The steering really felt lighter than expected but it definitely runs really well on the Indian roads. There’s hardly anything to complain about its drivability. The throttle input changes when put in that off road mode. Talking about competition the X1 has a ground clearance of 165 mm that means the Volvo has an upper hand over the X1 in terms of off-roading. But hey – would you still want to off road with this beauty?
A better ground clearance means you would have a plush ride while sitting. The suspensions work really well. The throttle responses change noticeably and there is hardly anything to complain about the same. Off-roading with this vehicle could be fun but the fact of the matter is – This baby is not meant to be driven like that.

Safety Features on 2018 Volvo XC40
The Volvo XC40 comes with those features like lane keeping and adaptive cruise control which definitely provides you the ride you want on those long highway journeys. Being equipped with all the latest gizmo on the safety front to name a few would be Airbags ABS, hill descent control and the ESC. Our personal favorite of the lot had to be the Pilot Assist. The Pilot Assist would help the car change its trajectory and pretty much assists the car to drive itself.
2018 Volvo XC40 Boot Space
The boot on the other hand is also well equipped with hangars and an adjustable luggage compartment. Sitting at around 585 litres of boot space, this beauty canhouse good amount of luggage for those airport transfers.
2018 Volvo XC40 Price in India
|Model||Expected Price in India|
|2018 Volvo XC40||Rs. 38 lakh to Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom)|
The 2018 Volvo XC40 India is expected to be in Price Bracket of about Rs. 38 lakh to Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom)
Although, if Volvo can price this beast around that 35 lakh bracket, it will definitely outshine the market and beat its competitors hands down for sure.
The Volvo XC40 is expected to be around 40 Lakh INR. Talking about the price it is on offer, it is an amazing machine equipped with a lot of segment first features. Volvo has always been aggressive in terms of pricing but am sure, at this price bracket getting features like Pilot Assist and that intuitive instrument cluster and an engaging drive this car is definitely a go getter.
