Maruti has completely gone all out with the design of the car especially the front which has been completely revamped making it quite attractive to the buyers. So how is it going to stand when seen from a buyer’s perspective, let’s find out.

2017 Scross Exteriors & Design
Talking about the design the front has completely changed in comparison to the back, which look same as the earlier car with slight changes in the bumper design & new Tial lights.
There is lots of chrome that has been used by Maruti in the front which has really gone in their favour that has completely revamped the basic design into an aggressive one. Now the car looks more appealing and value for money than it does.
The best part are the LEDS DRLS with projector headlamps which look quite futuristic and modern. The bonnet is muscular too with lines and strong creases. On the side we have a side cladding on offer which gives a more rugged appeal to the car and makes it look sportier. The introduction of new set of alloy wheels is really attractive.
At the back there are not so much changes but you do get new LED tail lamps which looks fresh and new, like the front the rear bumper is redesigned to make it look more appealing. Despite the overall design changes and sporty cladding to the car, the car does not make it place in the SUV Category it’s still a crossover or rather Premium crossover as Maruti says it.
2017 Scross Interiors & Features
Nothing has much change in the interior of the car and you still get a smart looking interior which is spacious and loaded with features .There is an all-black dashboard.
A seven inch infotainment with apple car play and android auto, centre armrest, cooled gloved box, audio controls on steering, engine start stop, and cruise control with speed limiter. The instrument cluster is quite crisp and clear and provides all the necessary information.
The only thing missing is the rear ac vents which are there in the other cars in its segment. The boot is quite spacious and you can carry a lot of luggage for your trips. Overall build quality is good and there are soft touch material in the car. It’s a nice cabin to live with.
PRICE BRACKET OF THE 2017 Maruti Suzuki Scross In INDIA
Now the new Scross is priced between Rs. 8.49 lakh for the base model and goes upto to Rs. 11.29 lakh for Top Spec. model.
|New 2017 Jeep Compass Model||Ex-showroom Price Bracket|
|Sigma 1.3 Diesel||Rs. 8.49 Lakh|
|Delta 1.3 Diesel||Rs. 9.39 Lakh|
|Zeta 1.3 Diesel||Rs. 9.98 Lakh|
|Alpha 1.3 Diesel||Rs. 11.29 Lakh|
Engine & Performance
It is equipped with Maruti tried and tested 1.3 l 200DDIS diesel engine which gives a output of 90 PS and 200 NM of torque .Gone is the 1.6 l 120hp 320DDIS which was really a gem engine .
The thing Maruti has added here is SHVS technology which gives about 7% more mileage from the engine making it more efficient than the previous motor. The engine is quite familiar to drive like all other maruti’s in which you get turbo lag below 2000 rpm and after that the turbo kicks in and rev up to 5000 rpm mark.
The mid-range of this engine is quite strong but in city driving you constantly have to shift down gears to keep the engine in its power band. The gears are smooth and clutch action is light. Overall the car has decent performance with a good mid-range.
|Fuel Type||Transmission||Mileage / Average|
Ride & Handling
The car is really stable at high speeds and the driver has confidence throughout the drive. The ride is really plush and it has a soft edge to the ride quality which soaks up all the bumps and pot-holes making the passengers of the car in their comfort zone.
The handling is typical Maruti which is not so sporty but steering does its job well which gives decent handling characteristics, the 16 inch tyres also provide great grip on the road. There is minimum amount of body roll around the corners and the car is always sure footed.
The car is equipped with driver and passenger side airbags with ABS+EBD as standards in all the trims which is quite good looking at the safety standards.
Now after launching the facelifted Scross, Maruti has up the game in the market & might attract new customers and sell in large number due to a price bracket where it is acessible, but still it is a crossover & an average car buyer goes for a SUV in the price bracket in which this car is placed. If you love to be in a premium and basic luxury cabin and love to ride the car in a sportier manner the Scross might be your choice.
It will take time for the Indian car market to change the way the customers buy cars and then the cars like Scross be a booming factor. Let’s hope that Scross make huge success in Indian market and compete well against its SUV competitors like Tata Nexon, Vitara Brezza & newly Launched Renault Captur and Ford Ecosport. But it will give tough competition to I20 Active, Etios cross, Honda WRV and Polo cross.
