In the compact hatchback segment Swift has been the Market leader and taken the Japanese car maker, Maruti Suzuki to a whole new level ever since it was introduced back in 2005. It is one of the best selling cars of Maruti Suzuki and has made its way to the hearts of millions of people. This time the Swift hatchback had undergone lots of Cosmetic changes and upgrades to keep up with the stiff competition in the industry.
However the Thing that hasn’t changed is the traditional sporty two box structure of the car and its engines, Maruti Suzuki has carried over the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine sourced from Fiat, with the BSIV emission grade and the 1.2 K Series petrol engine. Both these engines will undergo minor tuning to produce more power and be more efficient. The 2018 Swift would be lighter by 120kg than current model and it is claimed to offer exciting driving experience with high fuel economy.
The current Model of Swift was introduced in April 2011 and was had some really nice upgrades packed, like new head lights, stretched taillights and a new interiors that Maruti Suzuki had carried over to Ertiga and Dzire back then. 1,95,043 units were retailed in Financial year 2016 and manages to retain its crown of Market Leader.
To keep the adrenaline rush of the people the all new generation Swift will hit the Indian shores in February near the Autoexpo (2018). The glimpses and fan following of the four-generation global-spec model that has just been launched in Japan are in air nowadays. So lets take the conversation a little bit further and get to know what the all new Fourth Generation SWIFT.
Fourth Generation Maruti Suzuki Swift India Launch 2018
The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift has been launched in Japan this year and was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. It is expected to be launched in first Quarter of 2018 in India. The fourth generation global model will be carried over to India with some suspension and body Calibrations according to Indian road conditions. The new, Gujarat manufacturing facility of Maruti Suzuki is likely to produce the new Swift of the domestic as well as the Asian and European Market.

Now the new Swift will be priced somewhere between Rs. 5.5 lakh for the base model and will go upto to Rs. 8.1 lakh for Top Spec. model.

2018 Swift Engine, Performance and Mileage
The 2017 Swift is more likely to get 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine alongside the existing mills. It’s expected to have the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine initially and the powerful 1.5-litre diesel developed in-house could come in at a later time.
Although, Every bit of the exterior and the interiors are refreshed in the all new swift but the only thing that hasn’t changed are the engines. The 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor will get an upgrade, we can expect that it will remain true to its DNA of typical rev-happy engine will retain the existing power and torque figures. The Multijet injection engine from Fiat will make 83 bhp of power at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque. On the other hand the 1.3-litre turbo-diesel DDiS engine will continue to give 74 horses of power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque.
Coming to the transmission, both engines will be equipped with a five-speed manual transmission and an AMT transmission. Also these engines will be having excellent fuel efficiency figures thanks to the new light weight body and tuning done by Maruti engineers.

However there are rumours in the market that the new swift will also be equipped with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission that produces 102 PS power and 150 Nm of torque and a 1.5 litre diesel engine that is being developed by Maruti’s inhouse facility. Both these engines may be introduced later and may be packed with the more aggressive and sporty stance of the car, the Swift RS.
The Fourth generation Swift will also come with the SHVS technology with IGS (Integrated Starter Generator) to assist engine during acceleration. It generates electricity via regenerative braking and the charge percentage of the li-ion battery will be displayed on the LCD screen inside the car.
Interior and Features of the new 2018 Swift
Now you step in the cabin of the new-gen Swift you will the completely refreshed and feature packed sporty interiors with much airy cabin than the outgoing version of swift. The car also comes packed with upmarket features like a new Three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with steering mounted controls, large Touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car play and Android Auto nicely fitted in the centre and tilted slightly towards the Driver, redesign dashboard and neatly laid instrument Cluster, New HVAC controls, upgraded AC system, improved switches and knobs with a little bit of soft touches in the interiors, contrasting fabric stitches on the door trims and dashboard, etc. but missis on the practical cup holders with the A.C vents that are in the current generation of the Swift.
Besides new central console the new Swift is also equipped with Matuti’s new Standard gearshift lever that comes in Vitara Brezza. However there are also some more practical bits inside the cabin like Bluetooth, Aux and USB connectivity, voice recognition, automatic climate control and Mirror Link compatibility identical to one found in the Baleno and Vitara Brezza. It will also get a reverse parking camera, electrically adjustable ORVMs, height adjustable seats.
On the Safety front All the Variants will be equipped with Dual airbags as standard for improved safety and also ABS will be available in the top spec variants and will be optional for the lower variants. Apart from that the major change is the cabin space of the Swift, the cabin is more spacious with enough legroom for passengers to sit comfortably both in front as well as in the rear seats, thanks to Scooped-out front seats and the long wheelbase Baleno’s platform on which the new Swift is based.
2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift Exteriors
The exterior of the new Swift is true to its DNA and follows the same two box compact structure of its predecessor, it has also followed the much known Baleno’s fluid flow structure for better ergonomics and aerodynamics and ultimately better driving experience. It is also 15 percent lighter than Baleno and 10 percent more rigid. However it is 3,840 mm in length i.e 5 mm shorter, 1,695 mm in width, 1,525 mm in height i.e 10 mm smaller and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm i.e 20 mm more than the current model and has 170 mm of ground clearance. It has 205 litres of boot space that is somewhat larger than current model and has a large and nice area to engulf all the luggage easily, the fuel tank capacity is 42 litres which remain the same as the outgoing model.
Also it has got several cosmetic upgrades and several bits of styling. The first one that can be seen is the floating roof design borrowed from Vitara Brezza. The front now gets a hexagonal grill and makes it even more aggressive. The projector headlamps are neat and got some black touches inside, it also houses L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights which add to the sporty look of the new swift. The air intake has become larger in size with the large hexagonal grill. The C-shaped recesses connect each other which hoses the round-shaped fog lamps that is certainly for undisturbed air flow for better aerodynamics across front wheels.
At the rear, the beneath the C-pillar it houses the wraparound tail lamps with C shaped LED DRLS and there are nice and clear creases on the rear bumper too. The Major change is with the rear door handles that are hidden in the C-pillar with the rear glass window and resemble the ones found on the Chevrolet Beat that allow for the funky appearance of the car. The overall design is quite impressive and will hit the hearts of the customers with body-coloured rear bumper, lip spoiler integrated into the boot lid, new LED tail lamps and the agressive looking front.
Some other styling bits are sloping roofline, broader shoulder line, sporty front bumper, wraparound windscreen, turn indicators on ORVMs, newly designed diamond cut alloy wheels, blackened A and B pillars.
With subtle cosmetic changes, better ergonomics and aggressive performance the sporty looking stance will give a tough competition to existing rivals such as new Hyundai Grand i10, new Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo and KUV100 in the segment.
