A crossover, a SUV, or a grown up hatch most people are asking the same question about the new Renault Captur . Renault Duster which is a success for the company but its sales seems to be affected from past few months due to the introduction of cars like Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Creta which offer much more features with great styling and pricing. So now they have come up with a car which is stylish, lot of features, got many customisation options and a powerful engine. The company says that it is the urban crossover with SUV DNA.
2017 Renault Captur EXTERIORS
At the outside Renault has designed this car with a very attractive face with elliptical full LED headlamps with floating integrated indicators and Led DRL (Daytime Running Lights) which look quite smart and subtle. We also have a structured radiator grill with a thick Renault logo in the middle. On the side we have slopping roof lines and R17 diamond cut alloy wheels. At the rear the design look quite basic as the rear LED taillights doesn’t do justice with the rest of the car, as they look quite basic comparing with rest of the car. On the whole the design will surely attract buyers as it looks fresh and well to do.

We also have automatic climate control, push start/stop button with access card, a cooled glove box, armrest, ergo designed seats and quite an intuitive cabin to live with. Despite it got all the features that are required for a car of this segment it still look basic and average quality cabin, it doesn’t wows you that much in the design. ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
Renault has given two engine options, a 1.5 L H4K Petrol Engine turning out 106bhp and 142nm of torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and a 1.5 L K9K Diesel Engine turning out 110bhp and 240nm of torque mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. The engine performance is quite similar to the one we have seen on the duster, in diesel the engine feels a little hesitant below 2000rpm and then there is a strong pull and the petrol motor is quite linear comparing too the diesel with a low mid-range punch.
On the whole the diesel is the one which is pick of the range which gives you enough power on the go when you need. The refinement levels of both the engines are good and especially the diesel one, on which Renault has done a great job with the noise level of the engine as they are quite low which is an achievement by the company.
|Petrol Model||12 KMPL|
|Diesel Model||17 KMPL|
RIDE AND HANDLING
If you had driven the duster before than it is quite familiar car to drive. The handling of the car is quite direct and you feel confident in the corners, the car has good straight line stability and the driver feel really sure footed while driving the car on highway with triple digit speeds. The gearbox has short throws and quite easy to operate while the clutch feels a bit heavy, while going through the city traffic. The car has a soft edge to ride quality and helps to iron out most of the pot holes with ease, and also at higher the car irons out bad patches of road without compromising on stability of the vehicle. So it’s not particularly a driver’s car but it will do most of your job. It forms a decent balance between ride and handling.
A good looking car with attractive exteriors and decent interiors in the segment in which already many cars are there. It’s a tough competition for the CAPTUR to capture its position although attractive pricing will help Renault to attract consumers. Let’s see how it will perform in the Indian market. If you are looking for a stylish crossover than you can put your eyes on this as it will offer you a great overall package.
